Caressing the marble and stone
This artist book explores the transformation of the envisioned First World War heterotopia of 1914 into the Western Front trench heterotopia of 1914-1918. I am interested in how the Western Front trench can uniquely connect language heterotopias and space heterotopias through individual bodily experiences. The book’s title is a line taken from a Joy Division song which relates to content of the book.
This work is part of my ongoing research into colonial histories. I am interested in how experimental printed matter can reflect on the legacies of imperial conflicts and the borders created which still impact the world today.
